2026 SPICER COMMERCIAL CLUB WINTERFEST CELEBRATION
INDIVIDUAL ICE CARVING EVENT
ICE CARVING EVENT DATE: January 31, 2026, 1 PM – 4 PM
EVENT LOCATION: Saulsbury Beach, Spicer, MN
APPLICATIONS:
- Applications must be received by January 9th This can be completed by going to Spicer Commercial Club website at explorespicer.com and completing the participation form (https://forms.gle/duLnvoRvjXQAun5c8) or by mail to Spicer Commercial Club, PO Box 244 Spicer, MN 56288.
- All online and mail in applications must be completed and signed in addition to the following items; sketch of the proposed sculpture and sculpture title.
- Completed applications and sketch submissions will be the primary basis for consideration for participation by the Ice Carving Selection Committee.
- All submitted sketches will become the property of the Spicer Commercial Club Winterfest Committee.
- Applicants will receive notification (by email or phone) if they have been selected to participate by January 16, 2026.
- Selected participants will be required to pay a $25 participation fee prior to the event. A link for payment will be sent to them and they can choose to pay online or by mailing a check payable to the Spicer Commercial Club to PO Box 244, Spicer, MN, 56288.
- Ice Carving event is open to all applicants with ability and equipment to carve ice (must be 18 years or older upon submission).
- Your application will not be considered if we do not have a completed and signed 2026 SPICER COMMERCIAL CLUB WINTERFEST CELEBRATION INDIVIDUAL ICE CARVING EVENT APPLICATION AND RELEASE FORM on file with the Spicer Commercial Club (upon submission). This included signatures from the carver and assistant.
- Entries are limited, subject to weather and ice conditions and can be canceled at any time.
ICE CARVING EVENT AWARD:
- $100.00 per selected primary carver participant.
EVENT RULES and PARAMETERS:
- Participation selection is based on design and creativity of the sketch. Impact, technical difficulty, attention to detail, completeness of design (matches sketch submission), will all be considered.
- Each approved applicant (carver and assistant) must check with the Spicer Commercial Club team member (at the site) prior to the event start time in order to qualify.
- Ice carving set up time starts at 12:30 PM and carving start time is at 1 PM.
- Carving participants must be onsite at 1 PM (start time) to qualify.
- Ice block assignments are given to each ice carving team at the time of set up (12:30pm – 1pm).
- All competition ice must be carved on premises using the ice blocks provided.
- Carving time is limited to the specified event timeline.
- Each ice carver and assistant team member are responsible to ensure sculpture site safety, cleanup, and finishing.
- Each approved applicant will have one full block of ice for carving. Two blocks will serve as the base (set horizontally). The carving block will be set vertically on top of the base. Ice blocks measure 18” x 22” x 44”.
- The approximate ice sculpture dimensions are:
- Horizontal base will consist of two blocks with the overall dimensions of approximately 44” wide x 88” long x 18” tall.
- Vertical ice block will sit on top of the base ice blocks. The vertical block measures 44” tall x 18” wide by 22” deep.
- There is no ice carving requirement for a base (does not need to be carved) however, you may use both ice blocks and its total ice surface (base and vertical) as you wish to create your sculpture.
- The use of hand or power tools for carving is approved, and each participant is responsible to ensure all safety measures are followed (ear, eye protection etc.)
- The use of chemical freezing agents and other propellants are not permitted, considered hazardous and will result in disqualification. The use of Butane is permitted but must be utilized with extreme caution.
- Finished sculptures must be entirely of ice.
- Water is not provided (must bring your own) at the sculpture site but can be used as needed by the sculpture and/or assistant.
- Each contestant is limited to one carver and one assistant/helper.
- Only the contestant and assistant/helper are allowed in the carving area during the competition.
- Any sculpture deemed inconsistent with the submitted sketch will be subject to disqualification (sculptures cannot contain sexual or political themes).
- If a block of ice breaks/crumbles/melts or falls over during the competition it will not be replaced.
- All ice and ice conditions are subject to weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
- Contestants must furnish their own tools and are responsible for cleanup.
- Gas chain saws are permitted but must be used with extreme caution and only in the permitted area. Battery powered tools (Dremel hand held) and chipping devises are permissible at the sole risk and full liability of the user.
- No foreign materials may be left in or on the finished sculpture.
- No artificial props, lights, coloring or containers can be left on or in the sculpture.
- Each contestant is responsible for his/her own safety and well as the safety of others.
- If the sculpture is deemed a safety hazard to the carvers and/or general public (after the sculpting event is completed), it will be taken down.
- The completed sculpture is not the property of the sculpture and will remain onsite for the general public to enjoy.
- Participation in the contest is the sole risk of the contestant and the helper. The Spicer Commercial Club, City of Spicer, Kandiyohi County bears no responsibility for property or personal loss, damage or injury suffered in connection with the participation in the ice carving event.
- Weather conditions may cause delays or cancellation at any time.
- Ice carving participation money award of $100.00 is given to the approved/selected applicant during the event and subject to following all rules and regulations provided by the Spicer Commercial Club.
- Ice carving event cancellation notifications due to poor weather conditions (severe weather, melting ice, windchill) will be done via text or phone call prior to the event start time.
- In the event of cancellation all entrance fees will be reimbursed to the submission holder (carver/primary participant) within 2 weeks of scheduled event.
- Upon selection and prior to the event, a payment link will be provided to the selected participants. Payment due upon notification of selection.
