The Zylstra Brothers, Brandon and Shane, are bringing back their youth football camp to the New London-Spicer area, and they have some exciting changes!
“We want our camp to continue to grow and develop. So, the feedback we received from last year’s attendees was very helpful when creating this year’s program. By splitting the groups up more, we will be able to offer more individualized time with the campers,” Brandon continued, “each session is one hour and 30 minutes, slightly shorter than last year, however the campers will be able to move through the stations more quickly giving them a good workout and allowing us the opportunity to give feedback and tips unique to them.”
The Zylstra brothers have a few other surprise plays up their sleeves. Former CFL & NFL player Bryant Mitchell will be joining the brothers to help coach at this year’s youth camp. Bryant, who played for the Buccaneers and Cardinals, currently lives in Houston, Texas, where he stays busy as a Division Athletic Coordinator, coach, and personal trainer. They will also have DJ Justice Davis at the camp to keep the energy high throughout the day. Every camper will leave with a swag bag, t-shirt, autographed picture, and special Detroit Lions items.
This year’s camp is $100 per athlete with a $250 max per family. In a rural community, that may give pause, however last year the Zylstra duo donated $3,500 of the profits back to New London-Spicer!
“After the camp last year, Brandon and Shane donated $3,500 to our community programs- $2,500 of that money was used to purchase equipment to create a Community Education Youth Flag Football program at NLS,” recalled Tricia Lilleberg, NLS Community Education Director, “We used the remaining $1,000 of that donation to purchase new football helmets which impacted over 120 football players from grades 5-12. We are so excited to be able to partner with them again. They are passionate, knowledgeable, and sincere in using their success to inspire our youth.”
