Local Spicer business creates table top center pieces for the Governor’s Fishing Opener dinner
DI Labs, INc
The development of the Governor’s Fishing Opener centerpiece followed DI Lab’s process of new product development. Similar to other projects, the centerpiece started with a face-to-face meeting with Beth Fischer, Leslie Valiant and Denny Baker. During the first meeting we brainstormed and sketched ideas, the brainstorming process allowed us to understand the importance and spectrum of the project. The desired outcome was to design and build seventy-five centerpieces showcasing the Kandiyohi County region and to highlight an advanced technology within Kandiyohi County. 3D printing was the perfect solution to create the concepts because of its capability to generate high-detail parts in higher volumes. Using the initial whiteboard concepts as a starting point, DI Labs generated a series of concepts over a 3-month period that resulted in a 3D representation of the Willmar Lakes Area region topography on a fish hook; Highlighting the area as a Great Catch for fish, quality of life, and business opportunity.
While the centerpieces may look simple they were no small feat to create, from concept to delivery involved 12 meetings, 30 major design revisions, 50 hours of engineering, and 118 hours of manufacturing.
